WKE in final phase of commissioning for all three lines

19th October, 2023

WKE is delighted to announce that all three of its lines have been commissioned, with the plant performance test phase beginning this month.

The performance test phase will take 28 days to complete ahead of the plant’s first international shipment, with the 7,000-tonne vessel due to set sail in November.

In addition, demand continues to increase and WKE is currently completing additional trans frontier shipment documentation for production trials in Q1 2024 with several new clients in Western Europe.

Our CEO Ian Jones said: “We’re excited to be preparing for our first international shipment of 7,000 tonnes for an initial production trial, with a longer-term potential for up to 50,000 tonnes per annum.

“Our focus at the moment is on getting the plant ready for the performance test coming out of commissioning and getting that boat filled and ready to set sail.

“The final piece of the commissioning puzzle will be testing the AV Dawson storage facility and the loading of the vessel.

“Having gathered all the learnings of commissioning the plant, WKE is embarking upon a series of modifications to enhance quality and throughput, which when fully completed, will see the 250,000-tonne facility operating at maximum efficiency.”

WKE will continue to service its UK offtake customers in the cement and gasification business and has recently completed a three-year contract with a UK off-taker for the supply of up to 50,000 tonnes of pellets per annum.

It comes after WKE was crowned Global Alternative Fuels Supplying Company of the Year at the 2023 Global CemFuels conference in Istanbul, Turkey.

CEO Ian Jones added: “We were absolutely thrilled to win the award for Global Alternative Fuels Supplying Company of the Year at CemFuels 2023.

“As dedicated pioneers in the alternative fuel industry, we remain steadfast on our mission to create decarbonisation solutions within the cement sector as well as other heavy industries such as steel, power and gasification.

“This award stands as a testament to the hard work, innovation and green vision that propels our team forward every day.

“CemFuels was our first international conference and it certainly won’t be our last.

“It was fantastic to meet with more than 200 people at the exhibition and connect with several major European off takers.

“We’re looking forward to next year’s CemFuels conference in Dublin already.”

WKE is also in the process of expanding its team, to help meet increasing demand and the rise in new enquiries. The plant is working closely with its current suppliers and is actively looking to expand its supplier base of quality Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF).
