An update from our CEO Ian Jones

24th January, 2023

“I’m excited to report that we’re making good progress at our plant in Middlesbrough and we’re off to a good start this year.

“Line one is in hot commissioning with lines two and three scheduled to start this quarter. There were some design rectification works that we’ve had to work through but we’re on track.

“What I’m particularly pleased with is that we’ve produced more than 100 tonnes of pellets, to the specification that we wanted, in anticipation of the first customer trials to start imminently.

“We’ve had significant interest in pellet offtake from large overseas cement and steel manufacturers with production trials slated for February and March as well as a UK production trial with a cement manufacturer also taking place in February. Once these trials are complete and we’ve analysed all the data we anticipate moving to contracting stage.

“In the meantime, we’re proactively sourcing new suppliers of quality waste materials (SRF) and having regular discussions.

“We’ve also begun the process for pellet carbon accreditation which will be useful for our customers to be able to offset their carbon tax.

“2023 is going to be a big year for WKE and the whole team are excited by our progress. Demand for our pellets is increasing, the phone keeps ringing and we’re looking forward to announcing our first customer contracts in the coming months.”
